Patna, May 11: Namrata Kumari, 18, committed suicide by hanging herself at her home on road number 8 in Rajiv Nagar area today.
Sources said Namrata, also known as Gayatri, had taken the Intermediate examination in March this year and was apprehensive about her performance.
The results of the examination are expected to be published next month. Her father, Navin Kumar, is a private sector employee in New Delhi.
This morning, Namrata’s mother found the girl’s lifeless body hanging from the ceiling of her room.
Around 9am, the girl’s mother knocked on the door of Namrata’s room several times but got no response. The family prised open the door and summ- oned the police on finding the body.
The police, however, claimed that no suicide note was found.
“The family claimed that she was scared of the results. The Intermediate exams were held in March, the results of which are expected next month. There is no suicide note either. The matter is being investigated. The body has been sent for post-mortem,” said an officer at Rajiv Nagar police station.
Ram Kumar Thakur, Namrata’s grandfather, said the girl was very scared about her exam results, and this fear had probably pushed her to the edge.
“She was frightened and under pressure. We tried to calm her down but she would not listen to anyone. She said her exams did not go well and she might fail. We, however, did not think she would take such a step. We are in a state of utter shock,” said Thakur.
This is not the first case of youths in the city committing suicide in recent times. Yesterday, Ashok Priyadarshi, a Class IX student, committed suicide at his Police Colony reside- nce under Gardanibagh police station.
