Patna, Sept. 12: Mohammed Asid Alam, a civil engineering student of Government Polytechnic College, Aurangabad, visited chief minister Nitish Kumar’s janata darbar to seek aid to purchase a laptop. For, the techie cannot use his right hand.

After meeting the women complainants at the darbar, Nitish left his chair and went to meet the differently abled visitors. Alam was the first person the chief minister met.

As soon as Nitish reached him, Alalm got up and touched the chief minister’s feet. Nitish, who dislikes his feet being touched by visitors to his darbar, said: “Don’t touch my feet. Tell me your problem.”

Unlike others complainants who communicate with the chief minister in Hindi, Alam started to narrate his problem in English. “Sir, I want to become a scientist and invent things that will help the society. Though I am differently abled, I have never compromised with my studies,” he said. “At present, I am pursuing a diploma in civil engineering. I need to buy a laptop, as it is essential to draw designs on the computer. I am not asking for much. A laptop costs only Rs 17,000.”

He added: “I need your help to purchase the laptop, if it is possible to get a loan from the government or you can help me to get it financed by any bank, I would be really grateful to you.”

After listening to his problem, Nitish called his secretary S. Siddharth and told Alam: “You better describe your problem to my secretary. He has a PhD and will be able to understand your problem better. As you said that you are also interested in social work, he is the right person to approach.”

Siddharth took Alam’s application and discussed it with other officials. An employee of the chief minister’s secretariat said: “Sir, he (Alam) can easily get a loan from a bank. The government can also finance his requirement.”

Siddharth said: “His application has been sent to the official concerned. It will take some time but the problem will be solved.”
