Peter Wennerholm, a Swedish author writing a book on India's education with focus on social innovation, is in Patna to know more about Anand Kumar and his Super 30 - which tutors students from underprivileged sections for free to prepare for entry into IITs.

Wennerholm, who has spent two years with the Swedish Embassy in India, said: "Super 30 is an inspiring story. I had read about it and got to know how it is making a difference," he said.

On Wednesday he interacted with Anand and his students in Patna, finding out the type of education they were getting and their journey to Super 30. His book would deal with innovative practices in the Indian education system and focus on Anand's journey and his contribution to bring positive changes in the education sector.

"We want to focus on the economic condition in eastern India and how students from poor families strive for success using education as a tool," Wennerholm said. "Super 30 helps them realise their dreams."

Launched in 2002, Super 30 has trained 390 students, of which 333 have cleared IIT entrance tests.

"I come from Gaya. My father is unemployed and couldn't fund my education. But after coming to Super 30, I too can dream of IITs," says Aman Kumar Singh.

Dhananjay Kumar's father is unemployed and his mother runs a small shop in Patori village of Samastipur to feed the family. Dhananjay used to wear one pair of clothes throughout the year. He made it to IIT (BHU), Varanasi last year.

Altogether, 25 of 30 Super 30 students made it to the IITs last year.

Anand's initiative has attracted international attention earlier too. Just a few months back, a team from Japan's leading channel, Tokyo TV, had arrived to make a documentary on how students from underprivileged sections of society aspire to study at IITs and work hard under Anand's guidance at Super 30 to successfully chase their dreams. The government of British Columbia, Canada, too has honoured Anand.
