Patna, June 18: Police in the state capital might boast of cracking the murder of liquor trader Saket Kumar Gupta but they are yet to achieve any breakthrough in the killing of the prime suspect in the case, Prem Singh.

Prem, also a liquor trader, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on May 9, two days after Gupta, a relative of a director-general (DG)-rank officer, was shot dead at Kumhrar Park. Gupta’s family named Singh in an FIR on May 7. Once Singh’s mutilated body was found on the railway crossing at Kumhrar, several suspects in the Gupta murder case started to surrender.

While two of Gupta’s assailants were arrested on May 7, the police claimed to have cracked the case after arresting Gogo on Saturday. But the police have nothing concrete to say in Singh’s murder case.

When The Telegraph contacted Patna senior superintendent of police Amrit Raj, he said: “We have not yet come across anything concrete and there is no conclusion. The case is under investigation.”

Sources said the police’s claim of not arriving at any conclusion after more than a month of Singh’s murder was not quite convincing. The sources added that Singh’s death could soon be forgotten.

A source told The Telegraph: “The day Gupta was killed, his mother lodged an FIR against Singh. Two days later, Singh was found dead. The police made arrests in Gupta’s case and nabbed two shooters the same day. Many suspects surrendered as well.”

The source added: “The police took them in remand. The police’s claim that they have not reached any conclusion in the death of Singh cannot be believed. The cases are related and the persons arrested will know the reasons behind Singh’s death.”
