| Art, culture and youth affairs minister Sukhda Pandey inaugurates the gymnasium at JD Women’s College in Patna on Thursday. It is the first college in the capital to have a gymnasium. According to sources, the art, culture and youth affairs department has provided Rs 4 lakh to the college for buying the gym equipment. A cultural programme was organised after the gym inauguration. Pandey said: “JD Women’s College started with three students and two rooms in 1971. Today, it has around 6,000 students. Earlier, the college was run from rented rooms but now, the institution boasts of good infrastructure with its own building. It is a great achievement for this college.” The minister added: “The role of educational institutions should not be limited to awarding degrees or diplomas to students. It should also inculcate moral values among them. This college inculcates sanskar (values) in students.” Sports in-charge of Magadh University Sudarshan Rai, principal Usha Singh, gym in-charge Rekha Mishra, English teacher Lakshmi Sinha were also present on the occasion.
