Patna, Oct. 27: Preparations for the global meet of non-resident Biharis and experts from different fields, to be held in Patna from February 17 to 19 next year, have begun.
The meet christened “Changing Bihar — Forging Partnership for Development” is being organised by Bihar Foundation.
As part of the preparations, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who is also the ex officio chairman of the foundation, will launch a dedicated website for the event — globalbihar.net — tomorrow.
Bihar Foundation, set up by the state government in July 2007, is a registered society under the department of industry. The purpose of setting up this body was to provide a platform to non-resident Biharis so they could associate themselves with the development process of the state. Chief minister Nitish Kumar is the ex-officio patron of the society.
While three chapters of the foundation “Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore” are functional in India, eight chapters — USA (2), Canada, South Korea, Australia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Qatar — are functional outside India.
The purpose of organising the global meet is to associate non-resident Biharis and other prominent people from different walks of life with the development process of the state. The state government has already given “in principal” approval for estimated expenditure for organising the event, which would be held when Bihar will celebrate 100 years of its formation.
“We have charted out a tentative list of events that would be organised during the course of the global meet and once the website is launched, suggestion from people would be invited for redesigning the content of the event,” a source in Bihar Foundation, who preferred anonymity, told The Telegraph.
He said the suggestions would be accepted till December this year after which the content of the event would be given final touches.
Officials of Bihar Foundation said the website would also provide a platform to interested persons to get themselves registered for taking part in the event. “The list of the applicants would be scrutinised by a screening committee headed by the principal secretary of art and culture department after which the participants would be selected,” he added.
