A multi-layer underpass, flyover and an elevated section along Bailey Road would help streamline traffic in the city.

The state cabinet on Thursday approved a proposal to build the multi-layer road from Lalit Bhavan to Vidyut Bhavan near Income Tax roundabout. Four multi-layer underpasses would be built at Lalit Bhavan, Punaichak intersection, Hartali Mor and Boring Road intersection on Bailey Road.

The good news came a day after the 2.275km flyover from Jagdeo Path to Sheikhpura Mor was opened to traffic.

Cabinet coordination department principal secretary Shishir Sinha said the estimated cost of the project would be around Rs 391.47 crore.

Sinha, however, refused to give any timeframe for completion of the project.

A road construction department official said: "Under the plan, people going to the Secretariat from Punaichak would take a U-turn using an elevated road near Hartali Mor. Those going straight to Hartali Mor from Lalit Bhavan would use an underpass. Commuters going towards Lalit Bhavan from Hartali Mor would use another underpass. Combinations of elevated and underground tunnels would be made at other traffic junctions."

The cabinet okayed two pontoon bridges at Rs 89.47 crore on Ganga's southern and western sides connecting Gaighat in Patna to Raghopur in Vaishali district for smooth traffic flow on Gandhi Setu.

The cabinet approved 32 proposals.#
