The artistic talents of special children would burst forth with bright colours at a painting competition in the state capital on the last day of June.

Hundreds of students from 40 special schools in the state would take part in an inter-school painting competition on nature organised by Patang — the art, culture and youth affairs wing of non-government organisation Child Concern. The event would be hosted at Lalit Kala Academy.

“This will be the 15th edition of our painting competition. We are very excited about it and are leaving no stone unturned to make it a success,” Shivajee, managing director, Child Concern, told The Telegraph.

Explaining the preparations for the event, he said: “We have started arranging for food and lodging facilities, which we would provide to every participant and their teachers. We don’t take any registration charge from the students. So, all the expenses would be borne through sponsorship.”

The managing director also said: “Around 40 special schools will take part in this painting competition. ”

The participants are as excited as the organisers.

Pappu Thakur, the secretary of Viklang Samman Sansthan, Nawada, told The Telegraph over phone: “Parents of many students in our school are very happy that their wards are going to the state capital to take part in a painting competition. Nawada is a remote area. So, this competition is a great platform for the children.”

For all of those who would turn up in Patna, there is a little something. “No participant will return empty-handed from this competition. Everyone will be given a certificate.,” said Shivajee.

The event would take place from 9am to 12noon. Participants will not be required to bring along any drawing material, as the organisers would also provide these.

Asked about who the chief guest would be, Shivajee said: “The state disability commissioner, Satish Chandra, has been invited. We are waiting for confirmation.”
