| Students of various government and private schools form a human chain on Railway Station Road in Motihari on Tuesday in support of having Central University of Bihar in the district. The students, who came from various areas of the district, marched through the arterial roads of the town and raised slogans against Union human resource development minister Kapil Sibal, accusing him of being apathetic towards the residents of Champaran. A large number of women and political activists also took part in the protest march that was organised by the Kendriya Vishwavidyalaya Sangharsh Morcha. “We the people of Motihari preferred this time of April for our movement because Mahatma Gandhi had visited the district during this time in 1917,” Youth Congress vice-president Vinay Kumar Upadhyaya said. He also threatened to intensify the agitation if Sibal did not give in to the demand of the residents of the district. Life in the town came to a standstill because of the protest march as vehicles remained stranded for about an hour. Text by RN Sinha, picture by Ajit Kumar Verma |
