Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel remove temporary offices of sand and stone chips suppliers and makeshift roadside eateries, encroaching on the Patna Ghat railway tracks, on Wednesday. The tracks, around 500m from the railway station, have been out of use for close to 20 years. Now, the government has decided to uproot the railway tracks to lay roads leading up to the Patna Sahib gurdwara. The project has been conceptualised for the convenience of devotees who would come to Patna for the 350th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh in 2017. Encroachment is a serious problem in the area with roadside eateries and sand suppliers setting up temporary establishments. Last week, the district administration bulldozed the squatters' set-ups, only for them to return in a few days. On Wednesday, the RPF personnel reached the spot to dismantle the establishments.
