Patna, March 1: Police are ready with the sketch of the man who allegedly harassed a girl in an autorickshaw two days ago. The sketch will be made public in two days, a policeman told The Telegraph today.

Two more sketches depicting the profile of the suspect are also being made.

On February 28, Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Alok Kumar had suspended Shastri Nagar police station house officer Sanjay Kumar for failing to take prompt action in the case.

“One sketch of the suspect has been completed. We will release it in a couple of days. Two more sketches are being made at present. All details of the man — as described by the victim — have been taken into account. We hope the man will be identified and nabbed, once the sketches are released,” a police officer told The Telegraph.

The SSP was unavailable for comment. But an officer said the police had some leads and were working on them.

“We have some leads but we cannot reveal them now. The man will be caught soon. We are on our toes,” said another officer.

The police, however, did not confirm whether the man, whose sketch had been drawn, was a cop or not.

Alok had earlier said that many security agencies have uniforms for their employees that are similar to the police outfit. So the police were suspecting that the alleged eve-teaser could also be a security guard. A source said senior officers were determined to first ascertain whether the suspect was a cop or not.

Talks in this connection with the private security companies are also on the cards, police sources said.

“There are many agencies whose uniforms resemble that of the police. There are many who wear khaki coloured uniforms, which is quite similar to that of the cops,” Alok had said.

“We are, at present, trying to develop a system by which this problem can be solved. Talks will be initiated with the security agencies for the same,” the SSP had said.

The incident took place on Sunday evening when the girl, a student of the Central School, Sheikhpura, was on her way to her painting class.

The girl boarded an autorickshaw on Bailey Road.

A man in a khaki uniform was already in the vehicle.

When the girl got on the auto, he started misbehaving with her. The girl asked the auto driver to stop the vehicle near JD Women’s College. But as she was getting off, the man suddenly caught her hand.

When the frightened girl raised an alarm, the auto sped off with the man still in it.

The girl’s family lodged an FIR with the Shastri Nagar police station later in the evening.

Her father is an assistant engineer with the state road construction department.

This is not the first time that the police have been accused in an eve-teasing case.

On February 26, another girl had alleged that an officer of the quick mobile unit, near Patliputra police station, had harassed her. The next day Sunil Singh, the policeman in question, revealed to his superiors that his friend Ram Parvesh Kumar had misbehaved with the girl. Singh was suspended for negligence of duty.

Last year, the police had revamped the women’s cell to combat the growing number of cases of eve teasing and violence against women. A team of five sub-inspectors and eight constables had been posted with the cell under the deputy superintendent of police (headquarters 2) Smita Suman. The cell was supposed to function independently without any interference from senior police officers, unless required.
