The special investigation team (SIT) probing the question leak scam is set to take Parmeshwar Ram, the suspended secretary of Bihar Staff Selection Commission, on police remand for further interrogation.

The SIT is probing into the leak of question papers of the clerical grade examination conducted by the commission. Ram was arrested last month.

A senior police official who is monitoring the investigation said on Tuesday that the SIT chief - Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj - has been asked to seek Ram's remand.

"His (Ram's) interrogation is necessary in the wake of revelations made by those involved in the leak of the question papers and answer keys," the officer said, adding that Ram had revealed names of some influential persons involved in the scandal.

The investigating officer of the case would move the Patna City court in a day or two with evidence against the suspended secretary for the purpose. "Legal formalities are being completed," the officer said.

Asked about the money trail, the police officer said so far no concrete evidence has been found on this front. "But there is strong possibility that huge money changed hands. The SIT is working on the money trail," the officer said.

Sources in the SIT said Ashish, the nephew of arrested IAS officer and suspended Bihar Staff Selection Commission chairman Sudhir Kumar, had told interrogators that he was provided Rs 6 lakh by some coaching institutes to provide copies of the question papers and answer keys ahead of two rounds of the four-phase examinations.

"Going by Ashish's statement, 1,000 aspirants had received copies of the question papers and answer keys on WhatsApp," an investigating officer said. "Even if a candidate had paid Rs 5 lakh each, almost Rs 50 crore must have changed hands."
