Yachana nahi, ab rann hoga (there won’t any prayer, now there will be only war) is what contenders of Patna University Student’s Union (Pusu) election seem to be up to for the Decem- ber 11 poll.

The line, taken from poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar’s epic poem Rashmirathi (The Sun’s Charioteer), is the punchline of a poster put up by Independent candidate Deepankar Gaurav of BN College. His message is loud and clear: to restore the lost glory of the college, students would not sit idle but wage a war.

Such revolutionary slogans are part of the promotional activities of students’ organisations and poll contenders.

Samta ke liye sangharsh, hissedaari ke liye aandolan (Fight for equality, struggle for share),” has been imprinted on a poster of All India Backward Students’ Forum (AIBSF). All India Students’ Association (AISA) has put up a wall magazine of newspaper articles depicting its struggle to hold union elections.

All India Students’ Federation (AISF) is trying to send across the message of transformation through pictures of revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Argentine Marxist leader Che Guevara.

“By putting up pictures and messages of revolutionaries, we want to inspire students to follow the path of these leaders who had brought change in the society through hard work,” said Sushil Kumar, the AISF state secretary.

Debate date

The university on Thursday issued a notification stating that the Pusu presidential debate would be held at Patna Science College on December 10 between 11am and 2pm.
