New Delhi, Sept. 13: Sharad Yadav today said he represented the 'real' Janata Dal United, undeterred by the Election Commission's rejection of the claim staked by his faction.
'We are real JDU. Our lawyers are preparing a detailed case and we will approach the Election Commission,' the dissident MP said in reply to a question from journalists. He, however, refused to go into the details of the case, saying it was a matter being handled by the lawyers while he was busy with the larger issues confronting the country.
Asked about the JDU's petition seeking disqualification of his and Ali Anwar's Rajya Sabha membership, Sharad said it would be challenged. 'I have received a notice from the Rajya Sabha Chairman and soon my lawyers will give a detailed reply.'
Serving his tenth term in Parliament, Sharad refrained from replying if he would prefer to resign than get disqualified. 'I am fighting against a mountain and I am well aware that I will get hurt,' said the veteran leader.
Sharad also announced that a national council meeting of his faction has been called in Delhi on October 8. 'My colleagues have called a national council meeting on October 8. I will also participate,' he said, slamming Bihar chief minister and JDU president Nitish Kumar for aligning with the BJP. Sharad said he would continue to fight for truth and democracy and strengthen the JDU.
