The Magadh University (MU) senate on Sunday passed the annual budget, resolutions for students and posts for vocational courses amid protests by non-teaching employees alleging funds anomalies.

A budget of Rs 477,97,38,193 was passed for the financial year 2013-14.

The senate also passed a resolution to sanction the posts for vocational course.

The Magadh University Non-teaching Employees’ Association general secretary, Amarnath Pathak, alleged that though the senate has been approving the budget since 1988 and sending it to the state government for sanction, the education department has been providing deficit grants.

“Only 83 per cent of the gross salary is being paid to employees. Those appointed on compassionate grounds have not been paid and daily wagers are not getting appropriate wages,” he said.

The VC accepted that the payment of daily wagers was not according to the norms. He said the state government has constituted a high-level committee to ensure that salary is being paid to those appointed on compassionate grounds.

MU vice-chancellor Arun Kumar said those found guilty of operating a fake degree racket would not be spared. “The varsity will cancel the affiliation of MSRDD College, Devkund, (Aurangabad).” On Wednesday, MSRDD College principal Dinesh Rai was arrested in connection with a public interest litigation lodged with Shimla High Court, challenging the authenticity of degrees of some Himachal Pradesh state government employees.

The degrees were allegedly issued by MU. Rai and 27 other people have been named in the case, which is being investigated by CBI.

Higher education director Sitaram Singh said the government has started the process of appointment of 3,400 teachers through the Bihar Public Service Commission to meet the crunch.
