Patna, Nov. 11: Floods wreak havoc on lives of citizens and the impact lasts for months. One lot that suffers in silence is children of the victims.

Participants at a two-day workshop on disaster management today raised questions about academic arrangements made for flood-hit children who miss schools because of the deluge.

Advocating the expansion of disaster management authority up to village-level, Raghupati, general secretary, Samta Gram Sewa Sansthan, said: “There is a lack of information during disasters, particularly among women and children, who are most vulnerable. There has not been any help from the government, especially for children, whose studies get affected as schools remain closed for months during flood and earthquake.”

The workshop “Disaster risk reduction in Bihar” has been organised by Samta Gram Sewa Sansthan to sensitise people on how to mitigate floods and other natural disasters.

Participants, most of them flood victims from Darbhanga, Khagaria and Sitamarhi, who are working through Sansthan’s village disaster management committee at the panchayat level, academicians, representatives of different NGOs, attended the workshop.
