SCOUTS' HONOUR: A total of 32 scouts and guides, who have been shortlisted for the President's award from Munger district, at a first-aid training camp in the district headquarters town on Sunday.

Dr Sunil Kumar Singh (in yellow T-shirt), a senior surgeon in Munger, who too had received the President's award as a scout in his student days, trained the scouts and guides at the programme.

"A daylong session of practical training in first aid was organised by the Munger unit of Bharat Scouts and Guides on Sunday," said Srawan Kumar Thakur, the district organising commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides.

"All 32 scouts and guides who received first-aid training have been selected for the President's award from the district.

"The scouts and guides - school students from Munger district - were shortlisted about two months ago for the President's award, and have another rung of selection to go through before being finalised for the ceremony.

"I taught the scouts and guides on how to provide first aid to unconscious people on the streets after serious road accidents. They need to be first brought to consciousness and then shifted to the nearest health centres," said Dr Singh.

"They were also taught how to dislodge fish bones or pieces of meat stuck in the throat.

" District secretary of the Munger unit of scouts and guides, Suresh Prasad Yadav said: "I am thankful to Dr Singh for training the scouts and guides in first-aid service.

Being a President's awardee as a scout, he rendered us invaluable service today."
