Patna: Two youths riding a motorbike opened fire at the principal of a government school in Rohtas on Friday.

Anil Prasad, 45, who was posted at the Government Basic Middle School, Bastipur in Rohtas district has been admitted to a private nursing home, where his condition is stated to be critical.

The incident occurred around 8.45am at Lala Colony in Dehri-on-Sone, the sub-divisional headquarters in Rohtas district, when Anil was returning to his rented accommodation after taking a morning stroll. The locals rushed him to a Jamuhar-based private hospital for treatment.

Dehri sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Anwar Javed said Anil had received two bullets, one in his chest and another around his waist.

The assailants have been identified and raids were underway to nab the culprits, who were absconding after the incident.

SDPO Javed said previous enmity was stated to be the reason behind the murderous attack on the principal. He is stated to be a resident of Shivsagar police station area in Rohtas district, around 165km southwest of Patna.

The daylight incident has sent shockwaves among the morning walkers.

"Such an incident shows that there is no fear of law among the criminals. They are striking at the residents at will, anywhere and anytime," said a resident of Bara Pathhar.
