The Backward and Scheduled Caste Girls’ School at Chanchaura village, about 5km away from the district headquarter, is being run from a godown.

Several students complained that school authorities were negligent towards their well-being. The students alleged that they faced many problems, including security as two of the three guards are mostly engaged in cooking. They added that the food that they get in the school is of “sub-standard quality”.

Class VII student Archna said computer and Sanskrit classes were never held. She added: “There is one machine and a teacher for computer classes. Even books have not been made available.” Muskan said: “The carrom board and badminton rackets have worn out.” She added that even as they were supposed to get food for five times a day, they got it for two to three times.

Principal Nand Kishor Singh said he has written to the house (godown) owner and the department concerned to arrange for fans and repair defunct lights. The welfare department runs the school.

District welfare officer Navin Kumar said the school would soon get a facelift. He added that he has given a week to the house owner and the principal to improve the condition.
