Patna, June 24: The special investigation team (SIT) plans to bring three prime players of the Intermediate topper scam - Bachcha Rai, Lalkeshwar Singh and his wife Usha Sinha - face to face tomorrow and grill them on the modus operandi of the racket.
The SIT today took Bachcha, the chairman-cum-principal of Vishun Roy College, on a day's remand. Lalkeshwar and his wife Usha Sinha's remand ends tomorrow.
The time the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) gave to Intermediate arts topper Ruby Rai to appear before its special committee also ends tomorrow. Sources said if Ruby fails to appear, her result could be suspended permanently.
The police today also took two BSEB employees, Vinod Kumar and Vikas, into detention.
The cops said the duo, who work with the BSEB's confidential section, will be questioned in connection with the recognition the BSEB provided to many colleges allegedly in lieu of money during Lalkeshwar's tenure as its chairman. An SIT team today went to the BSEB office and held closed-door talks with deputy secretary Kameshwar Gupta.
Sources in the SIT said Rambhushan Jha, another board employee, had been asked to accompany the SIT to answer questions. "We have come to know Srinivas Chandra, a former secretary of BSEB, allegedly assisted Lalkeshwar and Usha to provide recognition to around 208 colleges in violation of norms," said an SIT member.
A special BSEB committee will wait for Ruby till 3pm.
"The BSEB has given Ruby three chances to appear before its special committee. This could very well be her last chance and if she fails to turn up, her result can be cancelled permanently," said a BSEB official.
Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj said: "Lalkeshwar and Usha have been in police remand and it ends tomorrow. They have not given any satisfactory reply to our questions. Bachcha has been taken on a day's remand. We have a long questionnaire and the trio will be questioned simultaneously. Sambhu Nath Das and Ranjit Kumar Mishra, both former employees with the BSEB (confidential section), have been taken on remand for a day. With all the five being questioned tomorrow, new things are expected to emerge."
