Santa Claus arrives to spread festive cheer

Undergraduate and postgraduate education department students of St Xavier's College of Education came together on the campus to celebrate Christmas on Friday. The programme began with a prayer service following which principal Father Thomas Perumalil S.J. and faculty members lit the lamp before a decorated crib.

Undergraduate and postgraduate education department students of St Xavier's College of Education came together on the campus to celebrate Christmas on Friday. The programme began with a prayer service following which principal Father Thomas Perumalil S.J. and faculty members lit the lamp before a decorated crib.

A short drama depicting the birth of Christ was presented by the BEd students. It was based on social issues, and divided into seven scenes for education, suicide among youths, women's condition, demonetisation, corruption, excessive use of mobile/media and problem of old age.

Next, Christmas carols in English, Hindi, Bhojpuri, Sadari, Santhali, Magahi were performed before the programme ended with a Nagpuri dance.

The arrival of Santa Claus was the best part as the staff members and students danced to Jingle Bell. Santa Claus gifted presents to every one present.

Start-up tips for women

Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna launched "Gender capital, start-ups and inclusive growth", a two-day workshop for women entrepreneurs in the state, on Wednesday.

The programme was held under the institution's centre for social entrepreneurship and start-up incubation centre. It is part of a collaborative project among the Manchester Metropolitan University and University of Essex in the United Kingdom, and CIMP to promote small businesses and start-ups.

Thankom Arun, faculty member of global development and accountability at the Essex Business School, and academic researcher Shoba participated. Arun started the pre-workshop session saying" entrepreneurs were the "agents of social change" and entrepreneurship led to economic growth and job creation.

Biotech lecture

Chief minister's namesake Nitish Kumar, an assistant professor of biotechnology at the Central University of South Bihar, delivered a lecture on "Plant systematic & biotechnology: challenges & opportunities" at a national conference organised at Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University on Wednesday.

His lecture was based on the findings of a project titled "Genetic improvement of makhana plant using gamma irradiation", funded by the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai.
