Salute to a hero

Chief minister Nitish Kumar pays floral tributes to revolutionary and freedom fighter Batukeshwar Dutt on his 107th birth anniversary here in Patna on Saturday. Dutt was a close associate of Bhagat Singh and both of them lobbed bombs in the then Central Legislative Assembly in New Delhi on April 8, 1929. He was awarded life term and was imprisoned at the Cellular Jail in Port Blair, but continued with the

Chief minister Nitish Kumar pays floral tributes to revolutionary and freedom fighter Batukeshwar Dutt on his 107th birth anniversary here in Patna on Saturday. Dutt was a close associate of Bhagat Singh and both of them lobbed bombs in the then Central Legislative Assembly in New Delhi on April 8, 1929. He was awarded life term and was imprisoned at the Cellular Jail in Port Blair, but continued with the freedom struggle after being released from prison. Dutt settled down in Patna in 1947 after India won Independence but had to spend his last days in penury and died of illness in 1965 while undergoing treatment at AIIMS-New Delhi. Health minister Mangal Pandey, former chairman of Legislative Council Awadhesh Narayan Singh, road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav, Legislative Council chairman Haroon Rashid and MLC Sanjay Singh were also present.
