The Centre will release Rs 1,000 crore to build and upgrade rural roads in all 38 districts of the state.

Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who holds independent charge of skill development and entrepreneurship in the Union government, will hold a meeting with deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav in New Delhi on Wednesday to coordinate on the project.

The decision to release the amount - given by the road, transport and highways ministry - was issued in a communiqué from Rudy's office.

Rudy's office said the Bihar government was initially supposed to get Rs 200 crore for the rural road upgrade scheme. "But the Centre has agreed to enhance the amount to Rs 1,000 crore to help the state upgrade and repair its roads," Rudy said, adding that Nitin Gadkari, the Union minister for road, transport and highways, has agreed to increase the amount following feedback from the state government and Bihar MPs.

Rudy represents the Saran Lok Sabha constituency. "I will speak to Tejashwi specifically for building and upgrading roads in Saran," he said.
