Robbers in net, hostage set free

Five persons who committed a robbery in Darbhanga were arrested in East Champaran and their hostage rescued on Tuesday.

The police in East Champaran had a tip-off from their Darbhanga counterparts that the criminals were on their way to Nepal. Identified as Sunil Yadav, Ram Uday Kumar, Vijay Sah, Uday Sah and Santosh Kumar, they were arrested at Dhaka on Tuesday morning.

One Monu Kumar, 18, resident of Janar Chowk near Runnisaidpur on Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi road was rescued from the criminals.

He informed the police that he had been abducted on August 23.

Sikrahana deputy superintendent of police Umeshwar Choudhary confirmed the arrest and rescue of Monu.

“The Darbhanga police were chasing the sports utility vehicle in which the criminals were travelling on their way to Nepal,” said Choudhary.

The arrested criminals and the youth were handed over to Darbhanga police. The Darbhanga police team have been on their toes since the robbery was committed around a fortnight ago. The station house officer of Dhaka police station, Anand Kumar, said: “We were alert after being informed about the robbery by the Darbhanga police.”
