Patna: Patna fares poorly in the education department's ranking of 38 districts.

Overall the district's rank is 16, but it lags majorly in parameters such as number of students with Aadhaar cards and bank accounts.

Only 40.86 percent of students at government schools in Patna district have Aadhaar. In contrast, Vaishali has 93.17 per cent, Sitamarhi has 89.19per cent and Jamui has 73.30 per cent.

Similarly, only 42.22 per cent of students at government schools in Patna district have bank accounts. The overall average for Aadhaar is 80 per cent and 75 per cent for bank accounts.

The district-wise report card released on Wednesday was based on seven parameters, including Class X board exam results, awareness campaign on social welfare schemes such as prohibition, child marriage and dowry, student attendance, and midday meal beneficiaries against attendance.

"The survey was conducted to assess the performance of schemes launched by the education department," said Bihar Education Project Council project director Sanjay Kumar Singh. "Based on the shortcomings, the districts will be asked to improve their performance. The performance in some parameters is a cause of worry for Patna; the district administration will have to work hard."

Patna district education officer Jyoti Kumar said all senior officers will brainstorm on how to improve the district's performance.
