A 32-year-old realtor was shot dead in Siwan's Andar Dhala locality on Monday, taking the number of murders in the district to two in 48 hours.
Police said motorbike-borne criminals fired at Jitendra Kumar alias Jarlahawa around 9.30am, when he was standing near a shop in Andar Dhala under the jurisdiction of Town police station. The assailants escaped after committing the crime.
Jitendra was rushed to the local sadar hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
A named FIR was lodged against Raju Sonar alias Raju Haddi, a resident of Nirala Nagar, in this connection.
Subodh Kumar, the station house officer (SHO) of Siwan Town police station, said the incident was the fallout of a property dispute.
Jitendra had gone to Raju's house recently to take repayment of his money but his accomplices attacked the realtor. Raju is absconding after the incident.
"Raids have been conducted to nab the accused," the SHO said, adding that the deceased too had criminal antecedents.
On Saturday, three armed criminals looted Rs 5 lakh after killing a private security guard and injuring another near Zeradei crossing in Siwan district, around 175km northwest of Patna.
The police have, however, failed to make any breakthrough in both the incidents.
"The realtor was killed despite an alert being sounded at the district headquarters town in wake of intelligence reports of a tense situation in Siwan," said a resident requesting anonymity.
The district administration has deployed special task force personnel in wake of intelligence reports that the situation could aggravate in the town if the Supreme Court rejected the bail granted to former Siwan RJD MP Mohamad Shahabuddin.
