Patna, Oct. 9: Senior JDU leader and Rajya Sabha member RCP Singh today took a dig at rebel leader Sharad Yadav and termed the former party president's national council meeting yesterday as illegal.

'As per the JDU's constitution, there is no space for the meeting Sharad Yadav called, because there is one Janata Dal United led by Nitish ji. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has already dismissed Sharad's petition twice. All the information provided by Sharad Yadav is fake,' RCP said.

Explaining how claims made by the Sharad faction were fake, he said in 2016 Nitishwas elected party president through organisational elections held in Bihar, Jharkhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Kerala.

As things stand now, the JDU has 194 national council members from these five states. Bihar has 103 members, Kerala 35, Jammu & Kashmir 23, Jhakhand 31 and Dadra and Nagar Haveli two of these members. 'I fail to understand how Sharad claims there were 1,000 JDU national council members of which 500 were present at his meeting,' RCP said. 'Sharad ji is talking about the old list and about those members whose membership has already ended. There was no election conducted in any of the states except the five which I mentioned. So his meeting was illegal and unconstitutional,' RCP said.

But Ali Anwar from the Sharad faction said their petition was not dismissed by the ECI. 'We have approached the ECI and the decision is still pending. As far as the party is concerned we are the real JDU,' Anwar said.
