Patna: Work on removal of the railway track from the R-Block to Digha will start from September 15.

The road construction department has handed over Rs 47 lakh to the railways to remove the tracks. "The removal of railway track between R-Block and Digha will start from September 15 and it would be removed in the next few months after which we will able to start work on road construction. We have also handed over money to the railways to remove the tracks," road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav said. At any cost, the construction will start this fiscal year itself, he added.

The new road proposed between R-Block and Digha will pass through Hartali Mor, Punaichak, Shivpuri, Mahesh Nagar, New Patliputra Colony, Rajiv Nagar and the Patliputra Industrial Area.

The total length on which the road would be construction is 6.9km and there would be a 5.5km-long service lane as well. The Bihar State Road Development Corporation Ltd (BSRDCL) is the nodal agency that will construct the road that would be free of traffic signals.

There would no traffic signals on the stretch of the expressway and there would be two flyovers and three underpass to make traffic smooth for commuters. The flyover would be constructed at the Bailey Road crossing near Hartali Mor and one flyover would be at Rajiv Nagar. Similarly, the underpass would be at Punaichak, Shivpuri and Boring Road water tank.

According to the plan, there would be a cemented drain from Indira Bhavan on Bailey Road to Rajiv Nagar flyover. On both sides of the road, there would be a 3m footpath under which telephone cable, gas pipeline and electric wires would pass. At the middle of the road, a 6m space would be left for the project related to the Metro project.

On the other hand, the encroachment on both sides of the railway track will be removed from September 10 onwards and the district administration has chosen a place to rehabilitate the people living alongside the railway track at Bind Toli.

There are around 300 families living on both sides of the railway track and all of them would be shifted to the Bind Toli area. The government has planned to give 5 decimal land to each family member.

The long-pending demand of Bihar government was fulfilled when railway minister Piyush Goyal had handed over the land to the road construction department on August 12, 2018.
