Patna, March 26: In one of the biggest seizures of Maoist weapons in the state, Aurangabad police nabbed two suspected rebels with 3,600 rounds of cartridges and ammunition from a house in Gandhi Nagar locality on Monday.

The cop team, led by Aurangabad superintendent of police (SP) Siddharth Jain, nabbed Akhilesh Singh, alias Manoj Kumar Singh, a resident of Sukulchak village in Jehanabad district and Udit Kumar Singh, alias Tulsi alias Toofan, a resident of Musi Khap village in Palamu district of neighbouring Jharkhand.

The catch though might have come just a bit late as the duo told the police during interrogation that one of their companions had already left for Latehar district of Jharkhand, a Red den, with a huge consignment of arms and ammunition.

Director-general of police (DGP) Abhayanand called the raid, which was conducted on the basis of a tip-off, a “big success”.

“The duo are being interrogated at present and more information is likely to be revealed. We have recovered many chemicals from the house. A team from the forensic science laboratory has been sent to the district to identify the chemicals. The two men are suspected to be active members of a Maoist group. The house, it seems, was a storehouse for the Naxalites where they stocked their ammunition,” the senior officer said.

The DGP said the third Maoist, Arjun, alias Munna alias Manni, may have already crossed into Jharkhand.

“All these men are said to be working for a senior Maoist leader, Arvind, alias Ninant, alias Baba, alias Dada. The two men have revealed that the arms and ammunition belong to the senior leader. Right now more investigations and interrogations are going on,” Abhayanand added.
