Patna, Oct. 1: Girls, especially Patna Women’s College students, dominated the scene at the 95th Foundation Day celebrations of Patna University (PU) at Wheeler Senate House, as they won as many as 25 out of 40 gold medals at the graduation-level.
The university chose the day to award toppers in their respective subjects at the graduation-level for the first time in its history. Patna Women’s College students clinched 16 out of 25 gold medals.
“It’s a good sign. Women’s empowerment is also reflected in the ceremony. We decided to reward undergraduate students to instil a sense of healthy competition among all the students,” the PU vice-chancellor (VC), Shambhu Nath Singh, told The Telegraph.
Singh said: “The university would be soon turned into a world-class institution on the basis of academic excellence like Harvard, Oxford or London School of Economics. They did not require any tag and PU also does not require the tag of central university.”
The VC said few unique and innovative programmes would be introduced in the university shortly.
Namrata, a student of BCom in Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, told The Telegraph: “It is unbelievable. We are lucky that we have got the gold medals as it never happened in the university’s history.”
