Patna: The Patna University Students' Union (Pusu) election will be held from 8am to 2pm on February 17 and the results will be out by evening, vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh announced on Wednesday.
The last election was held on December 11, 2012 - after nearly 28 years. "The election will be held for five key posts: president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary and treasurer," Singh said.
There will also be an executive member for every 1,000 students. There will be more than one executive member for colleges having more than 1,000 students. Also, there will be one executive representative in each stream - science, social science and humanities. For commerce, law, and education faculty - where the number of students is fewer - there will be one executive representative.
All regular students can contest the election. Undergraduate students in age group of 17 to 22 years can contest, while for postgraduate and LLB students the upper age limit is 25. For LLM it is 27, and for registered research scholars the upper age limit is 28 years.
Many students were dancing and smearing each other with colours when the VC was announcing the poll date.
The electoral roll will be released on February 3. If there is any mistake a candidate s/he can complain at his/her college or department by February 5. The nomination process will begin on February 7. The applications will be scrutinised on February 9 and the final list of candidates will be released the same day. Candidates can withdraw their names till February 10. Campaigning starts the day after.
