Postal salute to Gandhi's Champaran

India Post on Saturday released maxims and special covers at a function in Motihari organised to mark the ongoing centenary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi's visit to Champaran.

Bettiah: India Post on Saturday released maxims and special covers at a function in Motihari organised to mark the ongoing centenary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi's visit to Champaran.

Speaking over the telephone, postmaster, head post office (Motihari), Sunil Kumar Shrivastava said the postal department had released two special covers and four maxims containing pictures related to the Champaran Satyagraha.

"These special covers bear the pictures of Radhkrishna Sikaria Educational Trust and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Pillar. And maxims are conspicuous by the presence of pictures of Chandrahiya Gandhi Samrak, Bardharwa Lakansen School, Bhitiharwa Ashram and Hazarimal Dharamshala," Shrivastava said.

To mark the centenary celebrations, the department has also organised postal stamps exhibition-cum-fair at the sprawling Zila School compound in Motihari, where 80 frames of rare postal stamps were the cynosure of all eyes.

Earlier, Union agriculture and welfare minister Radhamohan Singh inaugurated the two-day exhibition-cum-fair.
