Patna: Bihar police will for the first time organise the All India Police Equestrian Championship next month.
Preparation for the mega police sports event to be held from December 29, 2017 to January 8, 2018, has started at the veterinary college ground near Patna airport.
The events will include tent pegging, dressage, show jumping and hacks.
Director general-cum-chief managing director of Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation Sunil Kumar has been appointed the nodal officer for the programme.
He told The Telegraph on Tuesday that the Bihar police recently purchased 55 horses from the northern states for the event Bihar has been tasked with for the first time. "These horses have already been inducted in the Mounted Military Police of the state," he said.
Members of different committees had a meeting on the upcoming championship led by Bihar Police Academy director-general Gupteshwar Pandey at the police headquarters on Tuesday. The members were assigned their respective jobs for a successful equestrian tournament.
The last, 35th championship, was organised by the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
Apart from the police teams of different states, several central police organisation teams such as Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Border Security Force will participate in the event.
Around 200-250 horses of different police organisations are expected to reach Patna soon.
