Patna: The Patna Medical College and Hospital administration on Friday constituted a committee to probe Thursday's incident in which Chhapra resident Ravibhushan Kumar had to carry his three-month-old son, who was on oxygen support, in his arms at Bihar's premier state government hospital.

The shocker comes a day after a road accident victim, who was administered stitches by a grade IV employee under torchlight at the Saharsa sadar hospital on March 16, succumbed to her injuries in a private hospital in the state capital.

Ravibhushan was taking his son, Kunal Kumar, for an echocardiography test to the nearby Indira Gandhi Institute of Cardiology (IGIC).

Kunal was admitted at PMCH's paediatrics department and doctors had prescribed an echocardiography test for him.

A picture of Ravibhushan carrying his son Kunal in his arms while another person behind him held the oxygen cylinder created a stir on Friday.

Health minister Mangal Pandey is learnt to have sought a report from the PMCH authorities in the case.

PMCH superintendent Deepak Tandon said that a three-member probe committee, which would include the paediatrics department in-charge Dr Neelam Verma, would probe Thursday's incident.

"The committee has been asked to submit its report within the next three days. We have also provided an exclusive e-trolley to the paediatrics department today which would be helpful for them in transporting patients to other departments," said Tandon.

Verma said that the whole matter was blown out of proportion.

"So far as the initial report suggests, people are making a mountain out of a molehill," she said.

"We have come to know that the patient's father did not wait for any stretcher and rather ran towards IGIC for the treatment of his son. A doctor, Chandan Kumar Singh, had followed Ravibhushan and helped him with the formalities at IGIC."

She said that Kunal was doing well in the paediatrics intensive care unit of PMCH and was under constant monitoring of the doctors.

The hospital administration later also shared the written statement of Sunny Kumar, one of Kunal's relatives, in which he claimed that he was satisfied with the treatment at PMCH.

Sunny wrote that his family members ran towards IGIC sensing an emergency for the ailing child, and that they had not demanded a trolley or ambulance from the doctors at PMCH prior to the incident.
