Patna, Sept. 1: Fish, meat and egg production in the state is set for a major boost as the state department of animal and fish resources is presently working on a roadmap for manifold rise in the production level during the next five-year action plan (2012-2017).

These plans were shared with doctors and officers of the state animal and fisheries department during a daylong seminar organised at the planetarium in the capital today.

Giriraj Singh, the animal and fish resources minister said: “Bihar is the first state to have its agriculture cabinet and according to its recommendation, we are working on raising the state production levels of egg, meat and fish.”

He added: “At present, we are lagging behind in the national average production of these products. The egg production in the state is mainly being done through backyard poultry but we are planning to have poultry production scheme initially in 13 districts to raise the production by five times in the next five years. We have also formed a new breeding policy for livestock to increase milk and meat yield. Moreover, we are also giving 50 per cent subsidy on purchase of livestock to farmers. Also processing facilities at Nalanda dairy would start by October,” said the minister.
