Pacemaker

Interventional cardiologist Prabhat Kumar has implanted a cardiac resynchronisation therapy defibrillator pacemaker on 77-year-old Ramnandan Singh, a wrestler who once fought Dara Singh.

Senior doctors Rajiv Krishna, Abhinav Bhagat and Shishir Kumar Mishra assisted Prabhat, who is attached to Heart Hospital. Prabhat announced the surgery's success at a press conference organised by Heart Hospital on Tuesday. Irregular heartbeats, breathing problems and unconsciousness should not be taken lightly, the experts said. "Singh was suffering from these problems and approached our hospital because of which he could be given right treatment on time. The CRTD pacemaker is more effective than other traditional ones, as it increases patients' life span," Prabhat said. Heart Hospital managing director Rajan Thakur congratulated the doctors for the surgery's success.

Tourism course

Magadh University has decided to set up a tourism department, vice chancellor Mohammed Ishtiyaque said on Tuesday. The university has also constituted a committee to settle long-pending promotion issues of non-teaching employees. The committee will work on non-teaching employees' promotion issue and hold a meeting by end of this month. The promotion issue of non-teaching employee has been pending for over decades. Last month, Magadh University non-teaching employees association had even staged an agitation, stalling administrative work at the campus.
