Retired Supreme Court judge Justice Aftab Alam on Tuesday said as the court is the strongest protector of media, the media stands in a position where it can be critical of the courts.

Alam, the chairman of the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal, was in the city to deliver the Shakeel Ahmed Khan Memorial Lecture at the planetarium. The topic was Courts, media and the issue of regulation.

The retired judge said the media has to maintain its credibility and guidelines for it should come from the inside, as external forces will neither work nor would they be acceptable.

Other speakers at the memorial lecture included Chief Justice of Patna High Court L. Narasimha Reddy.

Fun Day

Samarpan, a non-government organisation working for the development of children with special needs, celebrated its sixth Fun Day on Tuesday at Kankerbagh.

Shivajee Kumar, the managing director, said: "The aim of organising Fun Day was to create awareness about autism, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities."

The events included fancy dress and painting competitions.

Summer camp

Tender Hearts International School would start its summer camp from May 17-27. The camp would be open for children aged between five and 15 years.

On Tuesday, the school held an inauguration party for the camp where children splashed around in the pool and gorged on slices of mangoes and watermelons. At the camp, the children would learn dance and martial arts among other skills.
