The opening ceremony of DAV National Sports (cluster level) 2015, hosted by DAV Transport Nagar, was held at Patliputra Sports Complex on Friday.

The director-general of Sports Authority of Bihar, Arvind Pandey, was the chief guest.

About 1,000 students from 15 DAV schools took part in the event.

Principal of the hosting school H.K. Singh released the school magazine - Ijya. Arvind Pandey encouraged everyone to maintain healthy competition and highlighted the importance of learning how to accept defeat.

Paint to conserve

About 100 students from various schools across the state took part in a painting competition organised by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) at Planetarium on Friday.

Students painted to show how energy could be conserved using methods of non-conventional sources of energy.

NTPC public relations officer Vishwanath Chandan said: "Initially, the paintings of 5,000 students were shortlisted, and 100 students were selected. The national-level competition on December 24 will be held in Delhi."

In category A (classes IV to VI), Suhani of DAV Shastri Nagar won the first prize, while Anuradha Kumari of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Barauni, and Nikhil Singh of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kankerbagh, finished second and third, respectively. In category B (classes VII to IX), Pawan Kujur of DAV Khagaul won the first prize while Gaurav Anand of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Barauni, and Ayush Kumar of DAV, Gaya, finished second and third, respectively.
