Dynasty rule in parties

The RJD activists have started guessing on who would be their future leader after LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan made his actor son Chirag Paswan the chairman of the parliamentary board of his party. Paswanji has taken the direct approach in promoting his son. Our leader Laluji is trying to increase the acceptability of his sons Tejaswi and Tej Pratap in the party. He should also make his sons president and vice-president of the party,” said a senior RJD leader. The problem with the RJD is, said another leader, multiple (at least three) aspirants for the leadership in the Lalu-Rabri family. “There will be a family war if Lalu announces his successor,” said an RJD leader, ridiculing the talks of Lalu being more democratic than Paswan.

Past deed evidence

The day agriculture minister Narendra Singh was demanding arrest of RSS chief Mohanrao Bhagwat, BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav released photographs and news clippings of chief minister Nitish Kumar inaugurating an RSS programme five years ago. “We have a lot of things of Nitish and his party leaders to remind people of their past. We will ensure that the people are reminded of them,” said a senior BJP leader, recalling how the clippings of Nitish praising Narendra Modi surfaced the day the former announced his decision to snap ties with the BJP. The JD(U) leaders are horrified. “The BJP is actually helping the RJD to retain its Muslim votes,” alleged a JD(U) leader, stressing that Yadav’s act proved that the RJD and the BJP had a secret understanding.

Over-excitement after meal tragedy

Some of the BJP leaders appear to be going overboard over the midday meal tragedy. Former minister Prem Kumar and BJP MLA Shyamdev Paswan had cases filed against them by a headmaster of a school in Barachatti block in Gaya district. The headmaster complained that the two had forcefully taken some children to the primary health centre alleging that they had taken ill after taking midday meal. The two BJP leaders were charged with trying to spread rumour against the government. Unfortunately, people are ready to believe in anything against the midday meal scheme.

Most loyal of all Modi supporters

After the JD(U)-BJP split, political circles thought former minister Giriraj Singh would stop issuing statements against the state party leaders. But that was not to be. Singh accused his own leaders of trying to confuse people on who would be the party’s prime ministerial candidate. “There should be no confusion over Naredra Modi’s prime ministerial candidature,” he said. The BJP insiders pointed out Singh was trying to prove that he was the most loyal follower of the Gujarat chief minister in Bihar out of compulsion. “Actually Giriraj’s tenure in Bihar Legislative Council would end next year. He has already been in the House for two terms. For a third term, he would need the blessings of Narendra Modi,” said a senior party leader.
