The Bihar Bhavan in Delhi was in news again recently after a substantial amount of cash was recovered from a room, just vacated by a Bihar cadre IAS officer. cleaner spotted the cash in a polythene bag, ran up to the IAS officer and told him that he (the IAS officer) had left it behind. The IAS officer told the cleaner that it did not belong to him and left. “The mystery was not only over who owned the money; the value of recovered cash also varied from time to time. Initially, there were talks about recovery of Rs 30 lakh. Within six hours, it came down to Rs 20 lakh and finally, it turned out to be Rs 2.5 lakh in currency notes of Rs 500 denomination. The mystery is how much money was actually recovered,” said an official in the state, wondering how much graft money from Bihar was being carried to Delhi for investment in real estate in Noida. The JD(U) leaders were irked over the non-stop telecast of Narendra Modi’s rally at Rewari in Haryana. “The crowd size looked frightening,” admitted a JD(U) minister. A senior JD(U) leader was so upset after switching from one news channel to another, he ordered his attendant to switch off of the TV. “There is hardly any other political leader who the TV channels beam without commercial break,” he said. After embarrassing the JD(U) with their statements on the killing of five Indian soldiers in Kashmir, their way of lambasting the BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi have put the party in an awkward situation. Bhim used unprintable words for Modi in Madhubani, while Narendra called him “mentally imbalanced”. Shyam Rajak joined the duo, saying Nathuram Godse had reborn as the Gujarat chief minister. While Bhim and Narendra were showcaused for their remarks on the dead soldiers, this time they appear to have the sanction of their party. JD(U) national president Sharad Yadav backed Bhim. The JD(U)’s national president, Sharad Yadav, has declared that the party would go alone in Bihar in the Lok Sabha polls, but leaders of his own party are saying that Sharad is making a “public posture”. “If he reveals now that we are willing to have an alliance with the Congress, they (Congress) would exert pressure on us for more seats,” said a JD(U) minister. If political gossip is to be believed, the Congress is demanding 15 seats, which the JD(U) gave to its former ally BJP. The JD(U) hopes to settle the seat issue in less than half.
