Theft surprise at Shatrughan home

The recent theft of an old car battery from the Nala Road house of Patna Sahib MP Shatrughan Sinha has sent ripples among the residents of the area. “Apart from Sinha, Lok Sabha MP Ranjan Prasad Yadav also stays here. The thieves struck in the area despite the two MPs staying here,” said a businessman, pointing out that Sinha did not lose much.

' As Sinha is an MP, police said they were trying to nab the culprits. Had he been an ordinary citizen, they would not have even bothered to response,” he said. Sinha is not the only MP whose house was robbed. Thieves struck at the house of the RJD Rajya Sabha MP, Ram Kripal Yadav, a few years ago and decamped with his gas cylinder. The RJD MP even organised youths of his locality for night patrol.

RCP gets mileage

A portrait of IAS officer-turned-politician Ram Chandra Prasad, popularly called RCP, has virtually overshadowed the one of chief minister Nitish Kumar in a banner on a welcome gate on Bailey Road near the Urs festival venue. “Usually, the main leader's portrait remains at the centre,” said a JD(U) leader, stressing that he was hardly surprised. “After all, RCP has been playing the pivotal role in the party despite maintaining a low profile. He oversaw the party’s signature campaign for the special status of Bihar. In the run-up to the Adhikar Rally in Gandhi Maidan, he camped in various districts to encourage the party workers to help draw people to Gandhi Maidan,” said the JD(U) leader.

Hindsight of Tariq’s visits

Union minister of state for agriculture Tariq Anwar frequently visits Bihar, particularly his old parliamentary constituency Katihar. Tariq represented Katihar in the Lok Sabha thrice before losing thrice to his BJP rival. Although he belongs to Bihar, the CP leader is a Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra. The BJP eaders alleged that Tariq was trying to use his ministerial position for political gains. “It’s nice to see a Union minister hailing from Bihar after a long time. But if Tariq thinks he can take political advantage using his new post, he is mistaken. Even Lalu could not take advantage despite being a railway minister,” said a JP minister.

Retirement wish of teacher

The principal of a Patna University college was surprised when a 61-year-old teacher came to his office, requesting either to let him resign or opt for voluntary retirement. The principal reminded the teacher that he still had four years to retire because the state government had extended the retirement age of college teachers to 65. But the teacher still insisted on quitting. A close friend of the teacher said his two sons were settled in US and had asked him to shift there. “Living in US is better than teaching in a college in Patna,” his friend added.
