Patna, May 13: The 45-km stretch from Fatuha to Mahatma Gandhi Setu has been declared as a “no-overtaking” zone. Those flouting the rule will be slapped the maximum penalty.
In a meeting today on streamlining of the traffic situation in the city, especially along the NH-30 or the Patna Bypass Road and the Mahatma Gandhi Setu, senior police officers said the no-overtaking rule would be implemented strictly from Saturday.
“A no-overtaking zone has been declared from Fatuha to the end of the Mahatma Gandhi Setu. Vehicles not following the rules will be slapped with the maximum penalty,” a senior traffic police officer told The Telegraph today.
In addition to this, five highway mobiles have been introduced to keep a tab on the traffic situation along the same area as well as act quickly in case of any emergency like traffic jams or accidents.
“These mobiles have been provided with all equipment including high-band wireless sets with a single link for uninterrupted transmission as well as torches, lights and nylon ropes. They will be moving all along the road from Gandhi Setu till Fatuha watching traffic movement and taking action in case of a problem or an emergency,” the officer said. It has also been decided that no illegal bus movement will be allowed along the two roundabouts, namely the Dhanki More and the Biscouman roundabout.
“These two roads connect to the highway. With buses moving through them illegally, the traffic conditions become very bad. Hence, it has been decided there will be absolutely no movement of buses along these two roads. The buses will be fined heavily if they don’t obey the rules,” the officer said.
Shashi Bhushan Sharma, the deputy superintendent of police (DSP), traffic has been made the co-ordinator between Vaishali and the Patna police for traffic movement on the Gandhi Setu and the highway. In addition to this, no vehicles will be allowed to stand by the roadside anywhere between Fatuha and Gandhi Setu.
“No vehicles can park along the stretch. The police, who will be given fluorescent jackets, will be taking care of this and those breaking the rules will be fined heavily. Also, the officers have been asked to perform their duties responsibly and Sharma along with two other DSPs would be responsible for the traffic situation on the stretch,” the officer said.
