The Buxar open-jail concept in Bihar under which prisoners can stay with their families in flats on the jail compound has won praise from foreign countries, reports PTI.

Inspector-general (IG) of police (prisons) Anand Kishore said: “The Buxar open jail, inaugurated by chief minister Nitish Kumar on May 23, was discussed at the Asian Pacific Correction Administrative Conference at Brunei earlier this month.”

“After seeing the presentation on the open jail, representatives from Japan, Singapore, Brunei and other nations showered praise and evinced interest in paying a visit,” the IG, who took part in the October 6-12 conference, said.
