One of the oldest alumnus of the state’s premier medical college has confirmed his presence at the foundation day and alumni meet of Patna Medical College and Hospital.

The week-long programme of the 89th foundation day of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) would commence on February 17, while the two-day alumni meet would start on February 24.

Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, the co-ordinator of the alumni association, said: “One of the oldest alumnus, 85-year-old Dr Dharmendra Choudhary, would attend the meet. He would hoist the flag after which the foundation day programme would start. He was a student of the 1947 batch.”

Around 400 doctors, including 20 non-resident Indian (NRI) doctors, are expected to take part in the alumni meet. The 1989 batch of PMCH is organising the event.

Dr R.N. Singh, president, PMCH Alumni Association, and a noted orthopaedic surgeon of the city, said: “The alumni meet is one of the most important functions of the health hub. In this year’s meet, old boys and girls, who are now working in UK, US and Australia, would come down. On the inaugural day, various lectures would be held. This would help present students brush up on their knowledge. The second day of the alumni meet would be held along with the foundation day celebrations in which various people would be felicitated. Dr Naresh Trehan, the founder of Medanta-The Medicity, would be among the chief guests. He has confirmed his presence on February 25. We have also invited Governor D.Y. Patil but nothing has been confirmed.”

Asked about the NRI doctors expected to arrive, Singh said: “NRI doctors who have confirmed their participation are Arun Mishra and Rajay Narain. Mishra, a student of the 1968 batch, works in the UK, while Narain is an interventional cardiologist at St George’s Hospital, London. He is a student of the 1993-94 batch. Other noted physicians include Dr Shishir Kumar, a diabetologist at Bombay Hospital and Dr Jagdish Prasad, director-general of health services, Government of India.

Different programmes would be held on the foundation day by various societies of the college. “Various kinds of programmes would be organised by the societies during the week-long foundation day celebration,” said Dharmendra Kumar, a final-year student.
