Patna, Aug. 10: A cyber imposter has proved that no one, not even men in uniform, is safe in the virtual world.

Two profiles similar to the name of city superintendent of police, Patna Central , Shivdeep Lande have appeared on popular social networking website, Facebook. But the officer is not amused by it.

The case has been transferred to the cyber cell of Patna police for investigation.

The officer today claimed that a fake profile of him had been opened on Face- book, which was a serious issue.

“I am not on Facebook or for that matter, any social networking site. I got to know that my fake profile has been created. This needs to be probed. The case has been handed to the cyber crime cell of the city police and the imposter will be traced,” Lande said.

A check on the website is a bit confusing though.

As one keys in the officer’s name, the website displays two profiles by the same name but without any photographs.

The profiles are, however, spelt differently — as “Sivdeep” and “Shivdip” — and not the way the officer spells his name, “Shivdeep”. But both profiles carry the surname “Lande”.

Moreover, both the profiles are protected, which means no one can check their profile unless the profile owner accepts a friend request.

“If a fake profile exists, it is a form of cyber crime and will be investigated thoroughly,” a police officer said.

Earlier too, several forms of cyber crime hit the state capital time and again, the last being the creation of a fake website of Patna High Court (www.patnahighcourt.co.in). The website duped persons into paying large sums of money with fake job offers in the high court. Acting on just one complaint, Kotwali police lodged an FIR but investigators are yet to track down the criminal. Investigations had found out that the website was created in the state capital itself. The fake website is still functional and the police have sought more time to get the website blocked.
