Transport minister Chandrika Rai flagged off 50 hi-tech low-floor buses between Muzaffarpur and north Bihar districts on Tuesday.

The buses, being run under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, will connect places in Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi and Sheohar districts. The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation will launch 10 more buses in Motihari from February 15. All the buses will be equipped with GPS (global positioning system) and closed-circuit television cameras for effective control and monitoring.

Barhampura resident Anil Kumar said: "These buses will make transport comfortable, and save us the trouble of waiting for private buses which are very irregular." The buses have 32 seats and tickets are reasonably priced.

"Of the 50 buses, 40 are for Muzaffarpur and five each for Sitamarhi and Sheohar districts," said S.K. Jha, the road transport corporation manager.
