The industries department will roll out processed bottles of Nira in the state by the end of the year adhering to chief minister Nitish Kumar's orders.

Nira is the fresh sap from a palm tree, which is collected before sunrise and is known for its health benefits.

Nitish, after announcing prohibition, directed the department to develop the palm tree industry, department minister Jai Kumar Singh told The Telegraph on Wednesday.

He said an eight member committee headed by development commissioner Shishir Sinha had been formed to study the best initiatives related to the palm industry in other states and submit a report to the government by June.

"Nira is mainly collected from palm trees between the months of March and June," said the minister.

"We will open palm sap collection centres in different parts of the state initially.
