Varsities told to pay dues

Patna: Patna High Court on Monday directed BRA Bihar University, Muzaffarpur and VKS University, Ara to pay salary dues with 12 per cent interest to the teachers in a week. If the universities failed to do so, the salaries of the vice-chancellors and other officials would be stopped. bench of Justice Navaniti Prasad Singh passed the direction on petitions filed by one Kanti Singh and 11 others. The petitions had sought a directive to the universities to pay the salaries under Fourth and Fifth Pay Commissions. The court directed the vice-chancellors, registrars and finance officers to file an affidavit by October 11 informing whether they had complied with the court’s orders.

Protest

Gaya: Jitendra Paswan (26), a railway coach cleaner was electrocuted while cleaning the Mahabodhi Express coaches in the wash pit on Monday. Paswan’s co-workers alleged that inappropriate use of electricity had caused the accident. Angry co-workers squatted on the tracks and demanded a compensation of Rs 1 lakh. They also demanded that a criminal case be lodged against the private company hired by railways for cleaning. Rail area manager S. Bhattacharya confirmed the incident.

Shootout

Patna: Panic prevailed at the Garikhana area under the Khagaul police station at around 7pm on Monday following indiscriminate firing by a group of unknown persons near the residence of the ward counsellor.

Dental camp

Patna: Members of Lions Club, Patna Priyadarshini organised a free dental check up and awareness programme for the school for slum children run by Lions Club at Pramambhika School, SK Puri. Dental surgeon Priti Singh examined around 120 students. Singh advised the students about cleanliness.

Poll demand

Patna: Kayastha Chitragupta Sena has charged the NDA government of not giving proper representation to the Kayastha community in the ticket distribution for the forthcoming election. A meeting of Kayastha Chitragupta Sena was held at Maharana Pratap Bhawan on Monday. Sena president Akhilesh Kumar Srivastva said the present regime has not given tickets to Kayastha community.
