Nod to trial of officers

Patna: The state government on Thursday sent a letter to the special vigilance court granting sanction to try six Bihar government officers under the provisions of the Special Court Act, 2009. he act has a provision, which allows confiscation of property of those facing such cases. The officers who would face cases are Ram Naresh Singh, Ratna Ganguly alias Ratna Arun, Amitabh Arun, Balrup Das, Tribhuwan Ray and Indu Singh.

Arrested

Patna: A man, identified as Raghvendra, was arrested on Thursday for appearing in an interview for the probationary officers’ examination in place of one Kumar Shanuat the Gandhi Maidan branch of State Bank of India,

Prod to PMC

Patna: A high court division bench comprising Justice T. Meena Kumari and Justice Gopal Prasad on Thursday directed the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) to submit a progress report in two months with regard to removal of illegal cowsheds (khatals) from the capital. The direction was passed on a PIL filed through advocate Sunil Kumar seeking removal of illegal encroachment from the roads causing traffic congestion.

Suspension

Patna: District magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh on Thursday suspended a government school principal in Bihta for suspending classes and allowing a Bhojpuri film to be shot on the premises.

Table tennis

Patna: Aviraj of Vanijya Mahavidyalaya and Priya Kumar of Patna College will lead the Patna University men and women’s teams respectively that will take part in the East Zone Inter-University Table Tennis Tournament to be held at Visva-Bharati University, Bengal. A Patna Unive rsity press note on Thursday said Suheli would be the team manager and Mitali Mitra would be the coach of both teams. The teams would leave from Patna on January 13.

Fire

Gaya: Fire broke out on Thursday in the tents pitched on the Magadh University campus and in one of the makeshift restaurant opposite a market. The tents had been erected to provide accommodation to devotees arriving in Bodhgaya to participate in the Kalchakra Puja. Around 18 tents were reduced to ashes. Sources said fire broke out because of leakage of cooking gas from a cylinder. Two fire tenders were pressed into service that took around one-and-a-half-hour to douse the flames.

Rescued

Patna: Three labourers of a private construction company, who were abducted by suspected Maoists on Tuesday, were rescued by Sitamarhi police late on Wednesday night. The trio were rescued from a place under Tariyani police station of adjoining Sheohar district.
