Former VC in cop net

Patna: Satyendra Narayan Sinha, a former vice-chancellor of JP University in Chhapra, was arrested on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in an assault cases. cting on a court order, a team of Nalanda police nabbed him from his house. Sinha was also a pro-VC of Patna University in the ’90s.

Man shot

Ara: One person was killed and three others were injured in an exchange of fire between two groups at Andhari village under Chouri police in Bhojpur district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Ramji Sah.

Clerk held

Patna: Ranjeet Kumar Singh, the head clerk of Central Bank of India’s Rajvanshi Nagar branch, was caught by CBI sleuths on Wednesday while taking a bribe of Rs 11,000 from a Muzaffarpur resident.

Cancelled

Patna: Rajendra Nagar Jan Sadharan Express (12387) has been cancelled because it was late running. Several other trains have be reschedulled.

Plan anomaly

Patna: The leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, on Wednesday alleged that the state government had indulged in gross financial mismanagement in the plan size of Rs 24,000 crore allocated to Bihar by Planning Commission for the 2011-12 financial year.

Inquiry sought

Patna: The Bihar State Human Rights Commission has sought an inquiry report from the inspector-general of police,Darbhanga zone, in the alleged involvement of police in the 2009 “fake encounter” of Madhesh Rashtra Jantantrik Party president Ram Narayan Mahto.

Seminar

Patna: St Xavier’s College of Education, Patna, will organise a two-day national seminar on February 10 and 11. According to the college authorities, the objectives of the seminar is to bring together academics and experts from different parts of the country to exchange knowledge and ideas. The national seminar of the institution will also promote information technology among students.
